Mission

Retail Media is one of the fastest growing segments of the digital advertising ecosystem and yet it lacks some of the most fundamental industry standards that have propelled the rest of the ecosystem forward. “Retail Media” means a lot of different things to different constituents and it cuts across many different use cases including specific ad formats, on-site, off-site, usage of 1st party data, measurement and more. Some of the Retail Media use cases are perfectly well served by existing industry standards – for example using retail data to buy standard or native ad formats programmatically on the open internet is fully standardized with the current IAB Tech Lab standards. However, some other fundamental use cases are lacking standards and holding back progress for both publishers and advertisers.

Proposed goals for the working group:

  1. Propose a standard for buying and selling of core Retail Media use cases
  2. Author and align on specific recommendations to incorporate into Tech Lab standards for both the sell and buy side
  3. Author and align on how buyers and sellers can start transacting immediately through the use of extensions using the current OpenRTB standards
